Flextronics to Shut Down Assembly Plant, Cut Jobs by 1,382 in Malaysia

Singapore-based Flextronics, an EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) provider, plans to shut down an assembly plant in Malaysia located in Shah Alam, near Kuala Lumpur. The entire staff of 1,382 at Flextronics' Shah Alam plant will be laid off, according to Reuters on March 4. Despite of the fact that Flextronics declined to reveal further details regarding layoff and plant shutdown, a spokesperson from the retrenchment operations center of the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia, however, confirmed that Flextronics had notified the Ministry of its decision, according to the same source.
